ARTISTS STATEMENTS:
I wanted to approach this exhibition from another perspective and use ‘dolls’ to highlight darker issues from within our society. I won’t go into a prolong spiel but take a look at ‘Muffled’ and whether you squirm or smile, I don’t care. I just hope ‘Muffled’ stay with you a while.
Doug Marquet
This photographic series is an investigation into the facial expressions of children's Action Men and how they can be manipulated by the environment they are placed in. Through the voyeuristic eye of a low resolution vintage SLR camera, I have captured a malleable and documentary style of reality that explores identity and belonging: discovering that the more innocent something appears, the greater its potential is to be subverted.
Warren Robertson
Dolls never really interested me as a child. [funny that] It wasn't until the eighties when I meet the artist Grant Lingard and his collection that I took any notice of dolls and saw them in a different light. It then became apparent that dolls can be for adults, from the mainstream to the down right kitch.
