On the 5th of September 2007 the new Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act comes into effect.
This new legislation prohibits unsolicited commercial electronic messages (spam) with a New Zealand link (i.e. messages sent to, from or within New Zealand).
It requires marketers to obtain consent (opt-in) from the receiver of any commercial electronic message and that all commercial emails include a functional unsubscribe facility.
