Godley Gifts

Presentation of Godley Gifts to House of Lords, Parliament, London

10th October 2018

At a reception for seventeen people in the beautiful River Room, The Lord Speaker of The House of Lords delivered a speech when receiving 'Godley Gifts'. Those present included four peers (their Lordships Fowler, Crathorne, Northbourne and Dobbs); four members of Christ Church, Oxford; four New Zealanders. Haydn Rawstron, on behalf of The John Robert Godley Memorial Trust replied to Lord Fowler's speech. Two of those present were direct descendents of members of the original Canterbury Association, which chartered and sent out to the new Canterbury the first 22 ships of the settlement: Sir Michael Farquhar Bt. and The Lord Northbourne. The latter is the great, great nephew of Arthur Godley, ''Little Arthur", for whom 'Seadrift' was written and illustrated.
