Godley Gifts

Presentation of Godley Gifts to Rugby School, in Rugby, England

13th October 2018

On 13th October 2018, Haydn Rawstron presented, on behalf of the Trustees of the JRGMT, 'Godley Gifts set no 5' to Headmaster Peter Green of Rugby School, in Rugby, England. The school chose this date because it coincided with the reunion of school alumni of Kilbracken (boarding) House, so named in honour of Arthur Godley, who became the 1st Lord Kilbracken. House reunions occur only once every seven years. The presentation was made at the reunion lunch. The Headmaster introduced me and I addressed the reunion of several hundred persons for 7-8 minutes. Following lunch, I was invited to watch the Rugby 1st XV beat another school's XV on The Close, the field on which the game of rugby first evolved. Arthur Godley attended Rugby School as a boy, played 'at lock' in the School's 1st XV, and later served as Chairman of the school's Board of Governors.
